Well, with my family move almost all but over I finally have a little more time to dabble in the comic world. What’s really gotten me wondering is the fact that the Avengers and Avengers related characters have center stage with the new Civil War event. However I feel like with the success of Deadpool in the theaters by rival company 20th Century Fox and the fact that they own the rights to the X-Men franchise, Marvel and parent company Disney have grossly under produced current relevant and thought provoking story lines involving some of the most iconic characters. Even the Fantastic Four seem to be taking a backseat to the Avengers, also owned by 20th Century Fox. The only one that seems to be picking up in story boards is Spider-man thanks to Sony Studios for loaning out that character in the last Captain America movie. My favorite X-Men are slowly losing ground, losing stature, and generally losing and new character and story development. So what gives Marvel, suck it up, get a few on lone from 20th Century Fox. I mean, Deadpool is a money maker for both Disney and 2oth Century Fox now…so keep the cash cows mooing.

Well with that little rant or shall I say injection of what’s bouncing around with my few but determined little brain cells, here is this weeks top 10 eye catching covers! First off we have Megham Hetrick intricate set of skulls surrounding the Shadowman. Even with the minor touch of color the cover simply pops from the detail from the skulls. Brik is a new series out from Oni Press and although it’s not the best cover out this week for some reason the street light pole covered in signs grabbed me as something that I’ve not seen in a while, making it a little more unique than the rest. May even want to pick the issue up as it’s an Oni Press publication. With our next cover comes pure eye candy. The blending of minimal color with blending of light and dark Leandro Fernandez has created a cover that can make the everyday reader truly gaze over. Next up is a cover from a series that has never made the list for unknown reasons even for me and that is Doctor Who. Yes for me the series of mainly photos and character driven covers never really seem to jump out at me but this weeks Iron Man look-a-like just screamed look at me!
The Flintstones has a new series out from DC and two of the several variant covers made my list because of their unique design tailored to the series characters. Both Dustin Nguyen and Ivan Reid created fantastic looking covers creating different interpretations of the characters and settings. The punk look of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm and the selfie of Fred and Wilma are unique in their own design, nothing has been done before that even resembles that for the Flintstones. Next Robson Rocha creates a more realistic interpretation of Belize, both sexy and horrifying, she looks like something you would not want to cross paths with but yet if only you can tame the beast, oh the possibilities… The Punisher by Declan Shalvey had that extra touch. Declan created a cover that made you look twice simply to grasp what was happening. I love the sideways design and the keeping to the plight Punisher’s look. Andrew Robinson adds his touch to the world known only as Tokyo Ghost. If you haven’t been following Remender’s downright off the charts story with Sean Murphy as lead artist centered around an intriguing bit of futuristic storytelling with a twist then get off your your lazy ass butt and pick up a copy and start reading! Finally we have another cover showing how truly amazing Sara-Pitre Durocher really is with her versatile artistic style when applying it to the Transformers universe. She can be goofy or serious and this weeks serious cover made the list from the use of clean lines and smooth coloring making Windblade look all but godlike.
Well that wraps up another week of eye catching comic book covers. If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices this week please do and I hope to see you back here next week.
