Weekly Top 10 Comic Book Covers – Week 3/9/2016

There are some times when an artist simply out does themselves and this week Greg Ruth did just that for the Alabaster The Good The Bad And The Bird #4 cover.  I mean looking at it captures an emotional reaction of shear awe over the delicately drawn women embracing.  Next Tula Lotay made the list again for Amazing Spider-Man and for good reason, the woman pictured is beautifully drawn to proportion.  Not sure if these weeks theme is upside down women but hey I guess I’ll just go with it.  Next we have a cover by Hannah Christenson for Baker Street Peculiars #1.  I really like the overall shading done by the colorist.  Another well known artist is Kevin Eastman and his cover with Batman and the Turtles.  It looks a bit rough but still enjoy seeing the classic look of the Turtles and that damned pointy cape Batman has been sporting.  Another Batman cover by Tyler Kirkham I thought was pretty ingeniously done.  I love the outline of the bat signal lined in human bones.  It really brings out the severity that Batman must be in for the series.

A new Ninjak is out this week and Ryan Lee really took is job seriously and created a cover breaking the norm of most covers done this week.  Love the foreshadowing of things to come as Ninjak and well, sidekick Punk head into the unknown.  To be honest I’m following the series but just started so I’m way behind.  Damien Worm created a fabulously haunting cover for October Faction.  So David Mack has created some amazing pieces for a variety of properties in the past couple years and I simply gawk over each one.  This week he outdoes himself with Samurai for Titan Comics.  Looking at it makes me wonder, was this his first try or was this done after many renditions.  Does he look at it and go yeah that’s great but what if I do this?  Next up is none other than Emanuela Lupacchino for Spider-Gwen and oh my one day I’m going to meet her in person but until then I’ll just have to, now what did I say, gawk over her drawing as well.  She seems to draw such amazingly perfect lines creating near perfect figures.  Finally we have a variant cover for Transformers More Than Meets The Eye #50 by Mike Choi.  Looking at it I wonder why we haven’t seen more from this artist as he brings a little brawn to Megatron.  Slim yet buff, Megatron looks like the impenetrable force that should be.

Well that wraps up another week of eye catching comic book covers.  If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices this week please do and I hope to see you back here next week.
