Weekly Top 10 Comic Book Covers – Week 2/24/2016

Here we are again with another round of comics.  First off is what I believe to be the final week of Michael Cho variants for Marvel?  I may be wrong but he sure made Daredevil look badass and with only a pencil and 1 color.  Dammit well done!  Next up we have a gorgeous cover by Mehdi Cheggour for Enormous.  I thought the penciling was off the hook but the color scheme really added that wow factor.  With a combination of layering and emphasis on shadowing helped accentuate the creasing in her clothing, not to mention her beautiful hair made this cover top notch this week.  Next we have a subtle plug as Valiant Entertainment continues to create amazing stories that no one seems to be noticing and that quite frankly pisses me off.  Sales numbers seem to be down across the board with major titles such as X-O Manowar, Ninjak, and the late Rai.  All of them I’m buying and following.  I can only hope that more will take notice.  Now with that out of the way Faith is another great 4-part miniseries with what seems to be a monopoly on amazing artist.  If only they could get there movies and/or TV shows off the ground a larger audience is almost guaranteed to follow.  Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Red Agent #2 variant by Michael Dooney is not a mistake.  I honestly just love a girl upside down out there with machine guns…not to mention her hair is near perfect in my eyes…I’m so sorry.

Two weeks ago Abe Sapien got his own variant cover drawn by famous and out-of-the-box style artist David Mack and this week he does another for the sister series BPRD 1953 Beyond the Fences #1.  I love the botch water color work over Hellboy’s features.  Jacked #4 caught my eye simple because of it’s ingeniously drawn portrayal of a man trapped inside his own addiction.  Now I may be mistaken but that’s how I see it and John Higgins did a fantastic job on that cover.  Next we have a cover that hasn’t been on the list in quite a while and that being Spawn.  One of the longest running comic series ever, artist, writer, and lead honcho of Image Comics Todd McFarlane has taken us on quite a very long And wild ride with our character and this weeks cover looks awe inspiring.  Each scale meticulously drawn one after the next creating quite the demon dragon and what about that sword.  It reminds me of some damn good Final Fantasy blades I’ve messed with in various games.  This week we do have a diamond in the rough with a Transformers variant cover by none other than writer Jonathan Hickman.  EH?  Jonatha…who?  One of the most influential and amazing writers ever? Author of my most favorite series like East of West, Manhattan Projects, Avengers, New Avengers, man I could go on forever but yes, Optimus Prime got his due with Mr. Hickman’s pencil and it ain’t half bad so let’s All Hail Johnathon Hickman! Maybe you can get in there and collaborate with John Barber on a mashup of Avengers and Transformers???  Just a thought…  Finally we have a rather odd looking cover by Lee Bermejo for We Are Robin #9.  Robins hanging out inside of a Joker looking mouth?  I guess that’s for you to decide.

Well that wraps up another week of eye catching comic book covers.  If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices this week please do and I hope to see you back here next week.
