Weekly Top 10 Comic Book Covers – Week 2/3/2016

It’s Superbowl weekend so I’m gonna have to make this one real quick.  First up I thought A-Force #2 by Jorge Molina created a very calming team environment and boy do I love Pho.  Yes please I’d like to have a large bowl of Pho Tai please, seriously please!  Next we have for the first time an Angry Birds comic that made the list.  Something about the birds basking on the beach just made me smile.  As of late I’ve been potty training my son, which has been very difficult to say the least.  Angry Birds Star Wars II on the iPad seems to keep him in check whilst trying to evacuate that pesky fluid that seems to always find it’s way out at the most inopportune times.  Yes, Babs Tarr seems to be a frequent choice for the top 10 but seriously look at the art and you’ll see why, unique talent should be noticed.  Ron Lim made the list with our next cover for Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #1 variant edition.  Reason you ask?  Well he nailed Modok in my opinion.  His image though larger than most really contains that gritty facial detail where as I find that a lot of Modoks have few lines gracing his facial construction.  Next we have Dejah Thoris #1 variant by none other than Tula Lotay.  The name Tula Lotay is synonymous with beautiful art.

Michael Cho seems to have picked up a Marvel variant event that will span most of Marvel’s titles.  His simplistic approach to both shading, paint texturing, and color blend make each creation pop.  Color choices are very importing in these covers creating that atmosphere needed for each covers success.  Iron Man made the list out of many released this week by Mr. Cho.  It was a hard decision but love the color choice and eye catching design.  Lara Croft And The Frozen Omen #5 by Jean-Sebastien Rossbach was intriguing with the use of 2 layers.  One with Lara and the rock she desperately hangs on too and then the backdrop.  Put two-in-two together and you get a pretty good semi 3-D image so good effort.  I think Mirror #1 by Hwei Lim made the list from the intricate use of pastel colors and how they fade in and out like a wall in South American that’s been hammered by weather over the ages.  Siya Oum’s variant for Scarlet Witch was another classic design by Siya of the woman figure and what I love are her facial designs making the facial area the best part of the overall image.  Finally we have a rather odd looking cover for Victorie City #2 by Christopher Mitten.  I really enjoyed that pile of stuff the gent is sitting as he smokes his death stick.

Well that wraps up another week of eye catching comic book covers.  If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices this week please do and I hope to see you back here next week.
