Here are my personal choices for this weeks top 10 comic book covers. These covers got my attention and whether being good or not deserve a moment of your viewing time, so here we go!
Nothing like ending the year with a positive uplifting cover like Awake #3 by Brian Hess. Makes you think that no matter how small or large your problems may be you can always overcome the odds if you stand them head on. Another cover that looked pretty badass to end the year out was Batman & Robin Eternal cover by Fernando Pasarin. What a beautifully drawn face and that dripping bat mask that she carries on her somewhat deadly stern face, a nice addition. My favorite cover this week was a variant for Carnage #3 by Yasmine Putri. Carnage has always been a freak of nature, creepy, deadly, a villain you never would want to find yourself in the same vicinity of and Yasmine captured that essence of Carnage in his cover. Next we have small time press Avatar with a new series out called Code Pru and the movie poster variant by Raulo Caceres was simply amazing. Nothing like a little Lost in Space to capture the imagination.
Now an amazing series with a stand out artist has been the Dark Horse run of Colder. With the third installment out, Colder: Toss the Bones we again get to dive deeper into the sub-conscience of artist Juan Ferreyra as he undertakes a visual description with imaginative landscapes where the hungry nightmarish entities roam wild feeding off the crazy of our world. With each crazy person comes a particular flavor, a vintage of sorts if comparing to something like wine. Only Nimble Jack has the pallet to truly appreciate what he so hungers for and this arc is just as good, if not better than the past 2 arcs. Next with Deadpool his very name is synonymous with both dead and a large pool of big fat freaking lies. Dude died and now he’s got like 3 new series out! I think he’s an avenger, volume 5 of Deadpool is full steam ahead and now he’s hanging with Cable I mean damn he’s been busy for a dead man. Any ways, I wanted to point out Liefeld’s rather hilarious cover when compared to a real cover by Reilly Brown of the same series. I know Liefeld inspired many artists of today but seriously, Cable looks like shit! Francesco Francavilla gave us a more in depth inspiring cover with Dreaming Eagles while Jason Fabok gave us a very different take on Wonder Woman. I’m not sure what is off for me, she looks amazing then after a few of just staring I realize she has some major hips happening. Along with the black hair that seems to be just too high even if she was to angle her head downwards it still seems off. Any ways, what I loved about her was the costume. The angles and the pure shine of the metal with an amazing gauntlet attached to her right hand, that costume needs to always look just like that. Finally we have Arcee with twin sabers, one in each hand…I’m a sucker for Arcee and weapons, need I say more?
So that’s this weeks top 10 most fascinating, eye catching, crazy looking comic book covers that I could find. If you see any rare variants that you plan on searching for then good luck and happy hunting!
