Here are my personal choices for this weeks top 10 comic book covers. These covers got my attention and whether being good or not deserve a moment of your viewing time, so here we go!
This weeks list seems to be filled with a bit more kiddie comic fun than normal I suppose with issues like Adventure Time and Jem & the Holograms so if you can sit still without squirming I think we can sift through this list quickly without incident. So first off we have Adventure Time by Cara McGee and what makes this really shine is the coloring scheme employed on this virgin variant cover. I love the shading style with bright pastel colors, something that I hope my daughter will utilize later in her coloring book life as it really adds character and makes images pop off the page. Another fun, not kid friendly book making the list this week is from Big Trouble in Little China, cover by Aaron Alexovich. Yes it’s another amazingly drawn virgin variant but I love the facial expressiveness of our main character along with the 3 storms. Next we have Descender and Dustin Nguyen’s unorthodox drawing style. I feel with Dustin we could either hit or miss and when he misses it’s not that it’s bad but it’s hard to distinguish all the objects and characters on the cover or page. However on the flip-side when he nails it the damn image is freaking gorgeous. I believe this week’s cover nailed it and let’s be clear, I do love his drawing style. We have a double whammy with this weeks Jem and the Holograms Holiday Special. I felt both covers were beautifully done taking what is and drawing that outside the box of normalcy. Both Amy Mebberson and Agnes Garbowska took their time to create such cute designs.
Judge Dredd’s is starting a new volume with a wraparound variant that caught my eye simply with the sheer enormous detail of content taking place on the cover. Pinocchio Vampire Slayer Versus The Vampire Zoo by Dusty Higgins just caught my eye because of the underlying idea behind this new series. I mean, Pinocchio a slayer of anything? I suppose it may work as he is made of wood and especially in those situations where he’s backed in the corner he could simply lie his way out of a bad situation killing vampires through the heart with his nose sticking it to the bad guys, I mean it could be funny. I’ve always enjoyed our next artists covers as they always stand out amongst the somewhat crowded barrage of comic book covers. Babs Tarr’s Silk cover seemed simple enough yet just had that wow factor helping it rise above the rest of the standard “look at me” posing portraits you see every week. Next we have a new series out for the boys whom helped save the universe with the Avengers and that would be Starbrand and Nightmast. They were always the odd boys, one reserved, one gun-ho, yin and yang so it should be an interesting series to pick up. Finally we have yet another cover from the ever famous Sean Murphy and Matt Hollingsworth. I love how elegantly they have drawn our lady friends near perfect figure.
So that’s this weeks top 10 most fascinating, eye catching, crazy looking comic book covers that I could find. If you see any rare variants that you plan on searching for then good luck and happy hunting!
