Weekly Top 10 Comic Book Covers – Week 9/9/2015

Here are my personal choices for this weeks top 10 comic book covers.  These covers got my attention and whether being good or bad are deserving of your attention as well, so here we go!

One of the most stunning covers this week was created by artist Mike Krome for Eternal Soulfire.  The sheer elegance alone makes this a standout cover.  Following that incredible cover we have Christina Zullo’s cover for Fables The Wolf Among Us and that looks something of a creepy ass ex-girlfriend that’s been run through the ringer a few too many times.  Either that or she had too much fun the previous night at some all night rave.  Next the Force Awakens variant cover by Marco Checchetto had vast amounts of action going on with it.  I love the drawings of the fleeing rebel fleet from the impending doom of the Death Star.  However with any new series you have to wonder, what is the artist trying to get across.  I haven’t read the first issue that is suppose to support the new movie coming out.  A giant storm trooper helmet, that mean the rebels aren’t out of the woods yet Disney?  I mean Marvel?  I found our next cover simple in color yet beautifully drawn to proportion.  Mirrors Edge Exordium #1 from Dark Horse Comics stood out from the rest with nicely drawn facial detail not normally seen in Dark Horse covers.  Most of the comics are a bit more gritty or better yet less cleanly done than say comics from the other major and minor publishers.

Speaking of other minor publishers IDW Publishing’s My Little Pony Friends Forever cover by Amy Mebberson was cute and serious at all the right spots.  I love the play on coolness for Discord, whose normal off the wall crazy personality always seems to lead the ponies into trouble.  Next we have two covers from the series Ninjak published by Valiant Entertainment.  Yes you can cry wolf when it comes to Valiant since they have a special place in my heart but as of late Valiant’s artists have been killing it on Ninjak and Book of Death event cover art.  Stephen Segovia did a wonderful job on Ninjak holding his sword flying through the bamboo forest while did Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic cover of the evil villain Sanguine from the Shadow Seven was by far very creepy and mysterious in nature.  Reminds me of a twisted play off of the joker character gone ballerina.

For a T.V. show I can’t seem to think of a reason why I would watch but oddly enough the series in comic book form, be it as it may, seems to be going strong and is now has a new mini-series.  The Sleepy Hollow Providence virgin variant cover by Victor Santos was gorgeous and drawn really well.  The color may be plain but it provided a pleasant tone to the underlying scene the cover was trying to portray.  Another new series out this week was Tyson Hesses Diesel and the incentive variant by Yuko Ota had that awesome manga feel to it and done properly.  Much better than the DC Comic variants that have been done the past week or two.  Finally to close it out we have a somewhat disturbing virgin variant cover by Grimes.  Looking at it you can see that without the color it would be difficult to really grasp the nature of what was being done but adding in the light tones or even shadows makes it pop allowing for the user to see the layers.  I feel like if you stare at it long enough it becomes so much more.

So that’s this weeks top 10 most fascinating, eye catching, crazy looking comic book covers that I could find.  If you see any rare variants that you plan on searching for then good luck and happy hunting!
