Here are my personal choices for this weeks top 10 comic book covers. These covers got my attention and whether being good or bad are deserving of your attention as well, so here we go!
With my slight break from the top 10 coinciding with last weeks 4th of July celebration we are back on track with another week of covers. So lets dive right in with our first cover by Sebastian Fiumara and his take on the characters centered around Hellboy. I actually thought they were done pretty well and a lightly different take on a couple of them, mainly the women. Next is a favorite of my from Skottie Young and his take on the Age of Apocalypse. I picked up the Age of Apocalypse omnibus back when it first came out (before the price skyrocketed) and it soon became a favorite Marvel storyline of mine. That and Rick Remender’s fantastic Uncanny X-Force run; Deadpool so rocks. This next one really goes in hand with the show. If you aren’t up to speed with the T.V. series Teen Titans Go! then well, skip this cover and move on. Dan Hipp really captured the moment with Batman and Gordon spot on. Just like the show, both goofballs are usually cracking up like their portrayal on the cover and usually after some crazy funny event the Teen Titans are involved with.
Luna Ouyang created a fantastic image for Classic Popeye #36, very beautifully done and by far different from many of the covers released this week. Descender releases #5 and with that another image from Dustin Nguyen. His art has definitely passed the uniqueness category from other covers, which always seems to halt the eyes while flipping through the covers. Eternal Soulfire #1 cover image of the beautiful warrior fairy done by Michael Turner caught the eye simply because the proportions of the woman I felt were spot on. Yeah wings but in all seriousness there have been a lot of drawings of women as of late and I feel like a lot of them are off. It could just be me but this one needs to be given credit where credit is due.
Justice League Of America Vol 4 #2 by Francis Manapul made the list almost with the coloring style done on the cover. There is a lot going on in this cover and all was brought forth by 2 colors, shading seems to cover the rest, well done. Now I haven’t been following Mrs. Deadpool And The Howling Commandos and I really should be but this weeks variant by Giuseppe Camuncoli caught my eye with the use of shadowing that brought forth the mummy as the centerpiece of the cover. I really like this cover and how it was drawn and then colored. Phil Noto made the list with his drawing for Spider-Verse Vol 2 #3 and finally the water colored image of Strange Fruit #1 variant by JG Jones and it’s wraparound debut. Very different, eye catching, thought provoking so keep your eyes out for this series.
So that’s this weeks top 10 most fascinating, eye catching, crazy looking comic book covers that I could find. If you see any rare variants that you plan on searching for then good luck and happy hunting!
