#Comic Book Update – Weekly Top 10 Covers 5.3.2017

Here are my top 10 eye catching comic book cover choices for this week.  Who’s excited for Guardians of the Galaxy 2?!?!  I AM!  Gonna spend the cash for the 3D version of the movie this weekend with the wife.  Should be a fun date night.  As for covers this week, not so fun, what’s up with the Indie comics and nude covers, been quite a few past couple of weeks.  However I did break down and selected a non-nude but risque photo one I found rather funny and the artwork was well drawn.   That being Cavewoman Destination Jungle #1 variant by Dean Yeagle.  A favorite artist of mine Juan Ferreyra has a regular cover out for Green Arrow Vol 7 #22.  I discovered his artwork back in 2015 when he was working on the Colder series released by Dark Horse Comics.  That is another series you all should read up on, fabulous story and off the hook art that really brings the story alive.  However, the one that takes the cake this week is a remastered cover Jean Grey #1 Incentive Dave Cockrum Remastered Variant that is currently priced up on Midtown Comics website for over 1K.  So if your comic book collection is in need of a 1K cover then please don’t hesitate and go jump on over to Midtown before it’s too late.  If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices please do and I hope to see you back here next week for another edition of the top 10!

Top 10 List (Alphabetical Order…)

  • All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy #1 Incentive Aaron Kuder Variant
  • Cavewoman Destination Jungle #1 Variant Dean Yeagle
  • Empowered And The Soldier Of Love #3 Karla Diaz
  • Green Arrow Vol 7 #22 Regular Juan Ferreyra
  • Helena Crash #3 Variant Chris Visions Subscription
  • Jean Grey #1 Incentive Dave Cockrum Remastered Variant

#Comic Book Sales Figures – 2017.03

Comichron.com Sales Figures Analysis for March 2017

Amazing Spider-Man Volume 4 #25 Regular Alex Ross

Well it’s been quite a while since I blogged about stats on comic sales.  Simply put the sales figure site I reference Comichron has been going through a redesign for a while now.  It’s also been creating more historical data sets apparently going all the way back to 1995.  Now if only there was an easy way to grab the data via Microsoft Power BI or Power Query so I could break down the data on various series I personally collect.  Unfortunately screen-scraping with Power Query is still one of the only viable options and rather time consuming to say the least.  Wow, I think I’m heading off course so lets get out of data analysis from an IT perspective and chat more about this months statistics.

As you can see Marvel and DC share about half of the top 10 where Marvel takes the top spot with ASM #24.  What’s amazing to see when comparing previous years is now Image is in the top 10 and near the top consistently with their main flagship title The Walking Dead with 70,422 printed copies sent out while another top competitor Valiant Entertainment was near for their new volume to their flagship title X-O Manawar #1 with 60,524 printed copies sent out.  What I wish I could see were the reporting figures on digital downloads as that market has increased exponentially, while the printed could for comics is apparently still decreasing when compared to same month, previous year statistics.

With the reporting pause I took concerning monthly stats the one thing that really worries me are the print count numbers for the various Transformers series by IDW Publishing.  I’m a long time fan of the Transformers and where each series was near 10K+, each series now is pushing near 6K+, a rather large drop when compared to 2 years ago.  This again makes me wonder where digital sales are at.  Clearly the data is being recorded as Big Data to data centers but for someone that would like to see those stats, where or where do I venture to for that information?  If anyone out there knows, please pass along!

#Comic Book Update – Weekly Top 10 Covers 4.26.2017

Here are my top 10 eye catching comic book cover choices for this week.  To be quite honest this weeks lot of catchy covers was quite thin even though the weeks releases were numerous.  A lot of #1’s in the indie sections populated this release and like all #1’s came the dumping ground for multiple cover versions for each of those releases.  After digging through all the crap I was able to finally get my 10, though it did prove difficult at times.  I think Namwolf #1 by Logan Faerber was by far a standout with it’s ingenious use of the cover space.  I also loved Jin Kim’s variant for Optimus Prime #6, nothing like seeing amazing G1 style work. If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices please do and I hope to see you back here next week for another edition of the top 10!

Top 10 List (Alphabetical Order…)

  • Batgirl Vol 5 #10 Variant Francis Manapul
  • Batman Beyond Vol 6 #7 Regular Bernard Chang
  • Black Monday Murders #5 Tomm Coker
  • Britannia We Who Are About To Die #1 Incentive Adam Gorham Variant
  • Jem And The Misfits #4 Incentive Meredith McClaren Variant
  • Magdalena Vol 4 #2 Variant Christian DiBari
  • Namwolf #1 Regular Logan Faerber
  • Optimus Prime #6 Incentive Jin Kim Variant
  • Rick And Morty #25 Variant Erin Hunting
  • Rift #4 Leno Carvalho

#Comic Book Update – Weekly Top 10 Covers 4.19.2017

Here are my top 10 eye catching comic book cover choices for this week.   Right off the bat you know that the talent of Jae Lee resonates with another rendition of  Jim Henson’s Power Of The Dark Crystal #2.  The fact that it was done in virgin variant form makes me almost want to buy it if I had the money on hand.  His ability to command the pencil simply amazes me and the use of color only adds to the affect.  Another seasoned veteran released a cover for Wild Storm #3, yes you know it, Jim Lee.  Another amazing artist that seems to only put out amazing pieces regardless if it’s a regular cover or some rarity for $1000 bucks. If you feel the need to share your thoughts concerning my choices please do and I hope to see you back here next week for another edition of the top 10!

Top 10 List (Alphabetical Order…)

  • Beauty #14 Aaron Lee Kafton
  • Black Hammer #8 Regular Dean Ormston
  • Black Science #29 Variant Rafael Albuquerque & Moreno DiNisio April Fools
  • Jim Hensons Power Of The Dark Crystal #2 Incentive Jae Lee Virgin Variant
  • Jim Hensons Power Of The Dark Crystal #2 Regular Kelly Matthews & Nichole Matthews
  • Low #17 Variant Eric Powell
  • Monstress #11 Sana Takeda
  • My Little Pony Friends Forever #38 Incentive Sara Richard Variant
  • Wild Storm #3 Variant Jim Lee
